Playboi Carti

Simple, breezy, but hypnotically catchy, Playboi Carti is fine proof that less is more. As with sometime collaborators Lil Yachty and Lil Uzi Vert (not to mention spiritual godfather Young Thug), there are times when it doesn’t even feel like Carti is rapping so much as stacking syllables in space or working out some weird nursery rhyme—an effortless, off-the-cuff quality that makes the neon trap of “Magnolia” and “Wokeuplikethis*” all the more appealing. Being hell-bent on having a good time doesn’t hurt either.
